Pre-operative instructions
  • A light meal is recommended on the night preceding the surgery.
  • The patient should not drink any water in the morning of the day of the surgery.
  • In case of fever or flu, the doctor should be informed in order to postpone the surgery.

Post-operative instructions
  • On the first days, the patient should lay on the pillow, having his operated ear facing upwards or he/she should lay supine.
  • An antibiotic ointment should be applied on the surgical incision for one postoperative week period.
  • The patient should not travel for at least 10 postoperative days.
  • The patient should abstain from work for a minimum of 7 days.

The following instruction should be followed by the patient for at least 30 days.
  • Avoid coughing.
  • Try to avoid sneezing (if this is not possible, then it should be done with the mouth open in order for the pressure to be relived through the mouth, not the nose).
  • Avoid strong nose blowing.
  • The patient should avoid physical activity or weight lifting (more than 5 kilos).
  • The patient should try to keep water out of the operated ear during bathing. 
  • Air travel should be postponed for at least 2 months after surgery.

General Information
  • Hospital stay for approximately 24 hours.
  • Suture removal takes place during the first postoperative examination (postoperative day 7).
  • Gauze pads should be removed during the 2nd or 3rd postoperative week.
  • Audiometric assessment (audiogram) usually takes place after 3 to 4 postoperative months.
